The Introducing Comma

The introducing comma separates a word or phrase that appears before the main sentence. It allows for comments that qualify, contextualize, or emphasize the point being made:

Clearly, the concept of military culture encompasses the essence of military ethos and professionalism.

Within the global family, Canadians tend to see themselves as champions of individual rights.
