Nomenclature

This section is vital if you want someone to understand what the equations in the report mean[*]. It is a list of all variables used, their physical representation and their units presented in tabular format. Since variables are a mathematical abbreviation used to lighten the text (mathematical or literal), you must make available to the reader a list of all abbreviations used. When many variables are used it is somewhat advantageous to separate the variables into four tables: roman uppercase, roman lowercase, greek uppercase greek lowercase. If a complex system of subscripts and superscripts is used (as in thermodynamics or tensor calculus) these merit their own separate table. Section 9.2 gives sources for standardized nomenclatures.
