Design

The final design is presented in the Design section. Such a section describes exactly what is to be manufactured. The operation of the technical system and how it satisfies the specifications comprise the main body of the text in this section . The exact description of the technical system is the drawing package. In Canada and most of the western hemisphere, this is the only legal means to specify what an object is. If these drawings are too voluminous or are on large sheets, they should be included in an appendix. Do not describe each part in detail; that is the main role of the detail drawings. Even though the drawings should express exactly what is to be made, novel manufacturing methods or assembly precautions should be included. It is a mistake to reiterate the justification for design choices.

The Design section also includes all engineering calculations that prove that the system will meet the desired specifications. Include a reference to the theory behind each calculation. Do not repeat the theory unless you had to modify it. State which assumptions were made. Equations must be properly typeset[*]. If the calculations are lengthy, they can be summarized here and also put in their entirety into an appendix.
