Primer: Introduction If you are writing and speaking in English—or any other language for that matter—a basic understanding of how the language works is vital to effective communication, and indeed to clear thinking. Because language expresses thoughts and ideas, the better we understand the principles of grammar—the structures and rules that make the language intelligible—the better able we are to communicate ideas in a clear and logical manner. A dose of grammar, like grandma's cod liver oil, will do you a world of good, though you hold your nose to get it down. |
